There are a few different ways that you can take LSD. Two of the most popular methods are drops and tabs.
What is the difference between LSD tabs and drops? The only real difference between LSD tabs and drops is the form in which you take the substance. You can get identical doses from either one, and the effects will be nearly the same. It’s a matter of personal preference whether you use liquid or blotter paper.
What is LSD?
LSD, commonly called “acid,” is lysergic acid diethylamide. It is a potent psychoactive molecule. LSD is partly derived from a fungus with psychedelic properties found growing on rye and other grains.
LSD is a semi-synthetic psychedelic compound that has a similar chemical structure as the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin is found in the brain and is often called the “feel good” neurotransmitter because it controls how you feel, including a sense of physical wellbeing and your mood.
When LSD molecules hit the serotonin receptors in your brain, the receptors cause physical and visual effects, commonly known as a psychedelic “trip.” A trip can bring about changes in sensory perception, including distortions of colors, shapes, and sounds.
LSD binds more strongly to the serotonin receptors than even serotonin itself. When the LSD molecules bind to the receptors, they latch on strongly. You can think of this as a lid being put over the receptor, essentially trapping the LSD molecules in place.
This is one of the reasons that LSD trips last so long. The effects of the substance don’t wear off until the LSD molecules separate from the serotonin receptors, which can take up to 15 hours.
The length of your experience will depend on several factors, including the dose you take, your size, and any other medications you are taking. But typically, a trip will last from 8 to 12 hours.
What Are LSD Drops?
If you take LSD drops, you are using the liquid form of the substance. The drops are made by diluting LSD with another liquid.
Some people prefer taking LSD in drop form. One of the reasons for that preference is because when you store it properly, liquid LSD can last for many years. It also absorbs into your body quickly, and it’s easy to split into equal doses.
LSD drops are not as common these days as tabs. They used to be a lot easier to find during the counterculture movement of the 1960s and ‘70s. Now, you’re much less likely to come across them.
With drops, a typical dose is from 75 micrograms (ug) to 300 micrograms (ug).
The easiest way to take liquid LSD is to apply a drop of it to a sugar cube. You can also drop it onto a spoon. Once you place the liquid in your mouth, hold it there for as long as possible so that it can absorb through your skin or membrane.
You should avoid putting the LSD drops directly in your mouth from the dropper. The reason for this is that it’s hard to see what you’re doing. That could mean accidentally getting more LSD into your mouth than you intended.
When you use another medium like the sugar cube or the spoon, you can reduce any errors in dosing. Just be careful not to use a medium that is too small or not absorbent because the drop could run off.
If you choose to take LSD drops, you should be careful to keep the bottle directly vertical when you dose and gently and slowly squeeze it to keep the drops equal.
What Are LSD Tabs?
The most popular way to take LSD is on tabs. Tabs are created by drying liquid LSD on blotter paper. The blotter paper is often printed with colorful designs or cartoons, and it is perforated to separate the doses.
Typically a tab is about a quarter of an inch wide. One sheet of LSD tabs contains approximately 900 doses.
You can use the tabs in a couple of different ways. One way is to chew up the paper and swallow it. Or you can place it under your tongue for 15minutes to let the LSD absorb sublingually.
If you swallow it, it can take longer for the LSD to kick in, but otherwise the experience won’t be very different.
Both methods produce the same basic effects, so it’s just a matter of personal preference for how you use the tabs.
Most tabs contain between 60ug and 100ug of LSD. But it is possible to have tabs that provide much more of the substance. You can’t be sure about the dose unless you test it.

So What Is the Difference Between LSD Drops and Tabs?
Whether you take LSD drops or tabs, the psychedelic substance is the same. They’re just two different ways to take it.
Both tabs and drops start as crystalline LSD. The crystals are then dissolved into a liquid form. You can take the liquid directly in the form of small drops.
As we’ve discussed, to make LSD tabs, the liquid is placed onto blotter paper and then separated into doses. When LSD is made, it goes from the crystals to liquid to tabs.
Are Drops Stronger?
Drops and tabs are essentially the same things, and they produce the same effects.
Some people believe that drops are stronger, but the truth is if the drops are stronger than the tabs, it’s because the actual dose was different. If they are both the same dose, there is no difference in the overall effects of taking LSD as drops or tabs.
The differences in the strengths will also depend on how pure the LSD crystals are, to begin with, and then how much they are diluted.
It’s challenging to say precisely how much LSD each dose contains. Sometimes the bottle of liquid LSD will have the dosage listed on the label, but because LSD is mostly illegal and there are no regulations on it, it takes some effort to learn the exact amount of the substance you’re getting with drops. The same is true with tabs.
Pure liquid LSD is colorless and odorless. Whether you take tabs or drops, you also shouldn’t taste the LSD. If you detect anything bitter or metallic or if you have any numbing, then you likely aren’t taking LSD.
Sometimes the ink on blotter paper can taste slightly bitter – so don’t panic if you get a hint of bitterness from your tab. Strong bitterness or metallic tastes could mean the blotter has been adulterated with a class of substances called NBOMes.
NBOMes are imitations of LSD and are extremely dangerous. These drugs may still be psychedelic, but you also run a high risk of toxicity with unknown drugs. Ideally, if you want to be sure that you’re taking pure LSD, you should purchase a test kit, or send a tab to a testing lab.
If you are going to take LSD, either in drops or tabs, you must get it from a reliable source that you trust. If you can’t do that, then you should test the substance to make sure that you’re using real LSD and not other dangerous substances.
Because you can never be sure about the actual dose amount, it’s a good idea to judge by your baseline dosage. After the first time you use it, you will have an idea of how the trip will go. Several factors can affect your high, including your frame of mind and the setting in which you’re using the drug.
The bottom line is that LSD tabs and drops are just two different ways to take the same psychedelic substance. Neither is superior to the other. It just depends on what you prefer or how the substance is available.
